Debbie Koehn is an administrative assistant at the Austin Graduate School of Theology. She has been here for nine years.
Her previous work history included a receptionist position with the Travis county ESD #2 Pflugerville Fire Department, where she entered calls in the computer system, answered the phone and any other task they wanted her to do. She also worked with First Market Research Company as a supervisor, where she worked on surveys others had done for companies and monitored phone calls of co-workers doing surveys. This job was especially meaningful to her because she was in contact with diverse cultures, lifestyles, and belief systems. She also worked for the Department of Public Safety as a clerk typist and stenographer in the department of Driver Improvement and Control. Debbie also worked for Texas Water Utilities Association as a clerk typist and head off-set printer, keeping the dues of all the associations in Texas Water Utilities and printing their monthly newsletters and meeting notices. She also printed the study manuals for the water/wastewater tests among other publications.
While she had children at home she worked for Growing Family as a trainer and photographer. She trained others in taking pictures of newborn infants in hospitals specializing in keeping the baby awake long enough to capture that first special photo, including posing some of the babies to Hook ‘em horns or Gig ‘em Aggies for the picture. She also worked for a Mother’s-Day-Out at the Church of Christ in Hyde Park working with children of all ages from infants to four year olds.
One of her hobbies is singing and she belonged to the Sweet Expressions singing group for ten years. Sweet Expressions is a mixed a cappella chorus group, where she sang soprano. They traveled all over the state of Texas singing in various churches and other places sharing the love of God through songs and stories. Additionally she sang soprano as a member of a singing group called Safe Harbor and she has also sang with a chapter of the Sweet Adelines during Christmas time.
Debbie and her husband Perry, have two sons, Joshua and Jacob. They also have a sweet dog named Chance. The family loves to go camping when they are not working. They enjoy spending time together whether it’s reading books, playing board games or Forty-two (a domino game), going on a hike, or watching movies. Camping is a fun experience for the whole family.
