Mark Thompson is a second-generation member of the Board of Trustees of Austin Graduate School of Theology. His grandfather, Luke Robinson, was a long-time elder at the University Avenue Church of Christ and was one of the founding trustees of the Institute for Christian Studies (former name of Austin Graduate School of Theology). Mark currently serves on the Governance and Finance Committees.

A native of Seminole, Texas, Mark moved to Austin in July 1971 to pursue his education at The University of Texas at Austin (UT). Mark received a B.A. in Government from UT and a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. After graduation from law school and a brief stint at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Mark began work as a staff attorney with the Texas General Land Office. He later moved to an attorney’s position with the Texas Energy & Natural Resources Advisory Commission and then entered private practice in 1983 when he moved to Lubbock. Mark’s law practice is focused on transactional representation of clients involved in commercial real estate, including the development of shopping centers, industrial properties and other commercial projects.

Mark and his wife, Celeste (Pruitt), were married in Austin in 1982. They have one child, Claire, who lives and works in Lubbock. Mark has served on a number of non-profit boards in the Lubbock area, including as a board member and board chair of All Saints Episcopal School of Lubbock. Mark continues to provide pro bono legal counsel to All Saints and Celeste currently serves as director of Institutional Advancement at the school. In addition to his service on the Austin Graduate School of Theology board, Mark currently serves as a member of the board of trustees of the University Medical Center Foundation, where he is a member of the Finance Screening (Grant Review) and Finance Committees.

Mark and Celeste are members of the Broadway Church of Christ, where Mark has served as an elder since 2004. Mark currently serves on the church’s administrative team, is one of the elders charged with shepherding the Missions and Adult Education Ministries, and is a frequent teacher in adult Bible classes.
