Karen Weber has served on the Board of Austin Graduate School of Theology since it was known as the Institute for Christian Studies (ICS). She and her husband Jim, with several other couples, began serving on the ICS Development Board in 1973.
Karen grew up in Abilene, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 with a bachelor degree in education. She taught three years in the Austin public schools while Jim attended law school. In 1972, they moved to Beaumont, Texas where Jim practiced law with Mehaffy Weber. They had three children and attended Westgate Church of Christ for 20 years where Karen served as children’s coordinator for the Sunday School program.
In 1993, they moved to their ranch in Johnson City, Texas where Jim suffered an untimely and unfortunate heart attack. Karen continued to live and raise their youngest daughter there.
For the past 20 years, Karen has attended University Avenue Church of Christ in Austin serving as minister of hospitality, as a Sunday School teacher as well as the children’s assistant coordinator at Community Bible Study. Currently, Karen serves on the Board for Championship Heart Foundation which screens young athletes, serves as secretary for Friends of the LBJ National Historical Park, and also raises funds for the Johnson City Library. Karen enjoys playing bridge, traveling, participating in book clubs, entertaining and sharing her ranch for retreats and hunting, and loving on nine grandchildren.
